Unlearning & relearning
You must unlearn what you have learned.

I have to unlearn that learning is structured. Learning is powerful when it is allowed to morph for students.
We need to unlearn the idea that students who are quietly "listening" are learning. They need to be actively engaged to promote true understanding.
I have to relearn that learning isn't learning unless we use the knowledge to change our actions.
I need to unlearn the norms established by the culture that I learned in that no longer lend themselves to expanding my knowledge.
Students are learning about what they are passionate on their own. Some are great examples of connected learners. Maybe, we need to learn from them.
A challenge in relearning is to be willing to step into the confusion of the shift. Those who love order and predictability (me!), are going to have to let go! Write your message here
As teachers we need to relearn that that we are co-learners in education along with students. We need to help create, research, and problem solve.
My challenge is developing a deeper understanding of how students learn in a connected environment so I can design meaningful learning experiences.
We must “relearn” that we are not teaching robots…students are different. We have to adjust and modify, by any means necessary, to adhere to differences.
I must unlearn my beliefs about what it means to be a teacher.
I had to unlearn the process of student evaluation. I now think reflecting on process is a better measure of learning than "correct answers".
I need to keep learning that to truly educate, the lines are fluid between teacher and learner.
I need to unlearn that "teaching" is my goal and relearn that "learning" is, even for me, the teacher. I think that "letting go" is my greatest challenge.
We need to unlearn the idea that a correct answer is what someone teaches us or what a book says. We must trust that what we think and know can be right for us
I have to unlearn grading everything and relearn that learning is a process, not an end. Some challenges are practicing this daily.
I need to relearn how to document a plan for the ambiguity of a shifted classroom. I get it in practice but documentation is a challenge! More here...
Mrs. T, relearning that learning is an active and social activity
The concept of unlearning an assumption about teaching is similar to the discussion we had a few years ago about undergoing a paradigm shift.
Unlock the handcuffs on teachers ("follow the scripted curriculum") so they can flex their creative muscle to design learning for their classroom.
The challenges are getting the public to understand that school needs to change from what they remember
We need to unlearn that students must sit in rows and be present for six and a half hours. We need to unlearn that students are "empty vessels" waiting to fill
We need to re-learn to teach in the ways that today's student learns, using the tools and methods that create engagement and excitement in the classroom.
Kevin in our now scripted classrooms I think we have lost the joy that comes from spontaneity.
We have to re-learn that the unexpected will happen, and we need to adjust midstream to learning as it unfolds. Not everything will be planned, so be ready!
We need to unlearn that the teacher must be the expert and the student must rely on the expert to relay information.
Post your own sticky: What do you have to unlearn and relearn about education, teaching, the classroom, or learning? What are some challenges along the way?
Some examples: we need to unlearn that learning occurs only in school, that learning is limited by time and space, that learning is an individual pursuit...
