Due to there not wanting to be a repeat of WW2. In 1945 ( the end of WW2 ) 51 world powers met together and founeded the United Nations (UN).

There was a decline in the world's population. This caused many countries to weaken and become reliant on support from others.

Many towns were bombed during the war, such as: Scarborough, and so many people were left without homes.

America became the most powerful country in the world.

The USA's economy recovered and became the largest in the world. It dominated all other countries, such as : Britain.

After the men returned home from war, they found that their jobs had been taken by women. This caused employment to be difficult to find.

The destruction of factories effected the production of goods, causing Britain to loose 12% of her production capacity.

After WW2 there was a great advancement in science and technology. These advances would impact heavily on Britain's economy.

Germany was divided into 4 parts that were each ruled by victorious powers. This was until a decision was made about what should happen to Germany.
