So many people in such a small space, and yet it works like clockwork. The Japanese appreciate the space they have and make the most of it.
I loved the FOOD when I lived there - Okonomiyaki is amazing! And the politeness of the people, and the contrast of the old and the new :)
???????????
The buildings! Yokohama and Tokyo both have such modern architecture, intermingled with old wooden structures. Landmark Tower, Roppongi Hills, NEC Bldg., etc.
The challenge of not being a tourist but not being a local - either. Immerision without assimilation has its benefits for a sociologist
I like Tokyo. It's a massive city, but doesn't seem to have the crime and filth that usually go hand in hand with some cities.
High-speed 3G network in the big cities - bloomin marvellous - makes things like this possible
There are so many things that I love about living in Japan. Here are some little things: Chiyogami, Origami, Washi paper, and seasonal stickers!
The people! They is such contrast in their behavior. So conventional, shy and polite, yet so crazy, out there and fanatical.
Decent bento at combini. American convenience stores only have nachos and hotdogs.
I love hearing Japanese. It is a very unique way of expressing oneself - grammatically, emotionally, phonetically, and in relationships with family and friends.
Although this could be frustrating and overwhelming, I love that no matter how long I have been in Japan so much of it I have not explored yet.
Japan is convenient. Easy to get places, easy to find whatever you need from a vending machine.
One of the most alluring aspects of Japan is the fact that it is a modern, technologically rich country but at the same time it is still very traditional.
